Driving School at Canadian Tire

The franchise of Canadian Tire is taking a new approach to strengthen its presence in the automotive sector. The Canadian Tire Drivers Academy will launch as a pilot program in Ontario, the retailer announced Thursday, and will teach consumers about road safety as well as car maintenance.

Other retailers have improved their sales and consumer loyalty through launching educational clinics relevant to their businesses — yoga classes at Lululemon and run-training programs at Running Room, for example.

Those who complete the Canadian Tire  driving school program will also have an incentive to shop there. Once they finish there class, students will receive discounts and offers on auto products and services and a free year of the retailer’s roadside assistance program.

Classes will launch in Toronto on Aug. 13 at a downtown east Canadian Tire store. Two more will open by the end of the year, he said, and if successful it will be rolled out to other stores across Canada.

In my opinion this is a great idea from Canadian Tire's Marketing staff to  attract more consumers to their company.

What do you guys think?

Canadian Tire Money

Canadian Tire money is a loyalty program by Canadian Tire. It consists of coupons, issued by the company, which resemble real currency, and can be used as scrip in Canadian Tire stores, but is not considered a private currency. The notes are printed on paper similar to real Canadian currency.

CTM was introduced in 1958, and was inspired by Muriel Billes, the wife of Canadian Tire's co-founder and first president, A.J. Billes, as a response to the promotional giveaways that many gas companies offered at the time. It was only available at Canadian Tire gas bars, but was so successful that in 1961 it was extended to the retail stores as well, and has become the most successful loyalty program in Canadian retail history. The print on the 'notes' officially refers to them as cash bonus coupons.

Canadian Tire "Money" is given out for purchases paid for by cash or debit, based on the pre-tax total, excluding labour and shop supplies costs. The coupon rate earned was initially 5% of the eligible purchase price, but was subsequently lowered to 3%, then 1.4%, and now is 0.4%. Customers can use Canadian Tire Money to buy anything in the store.

How Canadian Tire started.....

On September 15, 1922, two brothers  John William Billes and Alfred Jackson Billes invested their combined savings of $1,800 in The Hamilton Tire and Garage Ltd
Hamilton Tire & Garage was sold in 1923 and the Billes brothers moved several times before they settled their site at 639 Yonge Street.
In 1934, the first official associate store opened in Hamilton Ontario In 1937, Canadian Tire moved into the new Main store at 837 Yonge Street, after completing many renovations to what once was the Grand Central Market. This location remains as an associate store in the chain today.

Welcome everyone to my Blog on Canadian Tire......

Thank you for checking out my Blog on Canadian Tire. It was founded in 1922 and is seen by many people as a Canadian institution, it even has its own money.  Canadian Tire is noticed by many as Canada's number one store when it comes to the needs of Customer Service, Housewares, Sports, Pets, Seasonal gift ideas, Electronics, Automotive and a Vehicle Service Department. They are in big competition with many American retailers such as Wal-Mart, Home Depot and other United States retailers, but it has not stopped them from being a successful Canadian retailer.
